Megan Pajak
M.A., LCPC | Licensed Professional Counselor
Well hello! My name is Megan (she/her), and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Illinois. I received my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology (with a Trauma and Crisis Intervention concentration) from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. I have experience working with clients aged 6+ in a variety of modalities (individual, group, family) who have presented with anxiety, depression, grief, self-harm, trauma, eating disorders, psychosis, substance use, defiance, overall mood management, and finding their identities within the LGBTQ2SIA+ and/or BIPOC community.
Background
I believe a healthy and successful therapeutic relationship includes, but is certainly not limited to: autonomy, professional intimacy, trust, respect, empathy, transparency, and authenticity, within a safe and non-judgmental space. I think these are the optimal “ingredients” for personal growth.
I approach each client with a holistic lens, so then you and I can better understand how your biological, psychological, sociological, spiritual, and political identities all intersect. I will educate and bring awareness to how your role and identity impact your relationships, as well as building on your current strengths and skill set to empower yourself for change and equity.
I pull from multiple therapeutic frameworks and evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Response Prevention, ComB, I-CBT, Prolonged Exposure, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Feminist Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy to achieve this. You and I will collaborate on what you need from treatment, whether it is learning to express your emotions to build a stronger connection with others, focusing on how your identity is impacted by a heteronormative-patriarchal society, discovering ways to challenge thought patterns that may be unrealistic, incorporating mindfulness techniques to ‘reset’ our biological ‘security systems’, solidify coping strategies, or developing a narrative to share your story. You will be actively involved in your treatment plan to achieve your goals. I believe that everyone is unique, and everyone deserves treatment that is meant for them, as mental health treatment is not by any means “one size fits all.”
I hold a strong interest in helping individuals find inner peace with a once struggling sexual/romantic relationship with their significant other(s), as well as incorporating trauma-informed care with sex therapy to help address any issues presented and promote social justice. I plan on continuing my education and clinical experience to achieve this.
I chose to be a professional counselor because I find it fascinating how people become who they are within their environments and experiences, and I want to help clients navigate this in the healthiest and best way possible for them while dismantling the stigma behind mental health each client at a time.
