Alissa Goldwasser
Clinical Intern
I am committed to helping people who are struggling experience real change in how they feel and how they function. I like to work collaboratively with people at a pace that we decide upon together. Central to the process is having an understanding of a person’s strengths and interests; these will play an important part in working towards a healthier, fuller way of living.
Background
For me, being effective as a counselor means not just having an understanding of many mental health problems and evidence-based treatments to address them. It also requires knowing each person as a unique individual and tailoring a treatment approach that will work best for them. My counseling practice is grounded in Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP). There are many useful concepts that come from other frameworks which I incorporate when they serve a person’s needs.
My areas of interest are anxiety, OCD, depression, body-focused repetitive behaviors (BFRBs) and phobias—particularly tricky ones like emetophobia (fear of vomiting). As a clinical intern, I have the support of the most experienced clinicians at the practice to inform the care I provide. I am working towards earning a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Antioch University in May 2025.
In my free time, I enjoy playing tennis, inline skating, and just being outdoors (preferably somewhere near a lake.)
