Carolyn Moriarty, M.A., LCPC
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the State of Illinois. I enjoy working with those struggling with anxiety and depression related to a loss of self-esteem, body image concerns and life transitions. I have a special interest in women’s related issues and have spent time providing mental health services at domestic violence shelters and volunteering on behalf of programs focused on empowering young girls.
I graduated from Boston College with a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling. I began my clinical experience working with youth, facilitating individual and group therapy for children and teenagers with Oppositional Defiant Disorder, autism, anger issues, depression and anxiety. I went on to diversify my clinical knowledge further by providing mental health services to adults with acute mental illness. My current areas of specialization include working with adolescents and adults with anxiety-based disorders such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Panic Disorder and Phobias.
My clinical strength comes from my ability to help these clients feel understood, rather than ashamed, stereotyped or “less than.” I tailor my treatment approach to the individual needs of each client, but tend to draw from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). My goal is to help clients identify self-limiting beliefs, allow themselves to fully feel their emotions without judgment, discover new perspectives, and identify opportunities for personal growth.
